Education is the cornerstone of Onward Neighborhood House programming. We provide educational opportunities for all ages.

Early Childhood Education

Working class families with young children often have limited affordable daycare options. The Onward House Early Childhood Education Program for children ages 2 to 5 is designed to meet the needs of children and parents seeking to better their lives. The year-round, full day, pre-school services allow parents to work full time, pursue their education, and support their families without having to worry about their child’s safety and educational development. Our center-based and home-based programs serve 75 children.

After School Program

The School Age Program provides children opportunities that foster independence, positive language skills, teach social and team building skills as well as expose children to a variety of activities that promote creativity as well as improve academic skills. Currently, the program meets the needs of 58 children ages 5-12 years old who attend local public schools.

Adult Education Classes

Literacy, both language and technology, is a critical need in the Belmont Cragin community. A survey from Wright College noted that in the Belmont Cragin community, 43.2% speak English, less than very well and over one-third have less than a high school diploma. And, according to our surveys, approximately 80% of our adult students had never before touched a computer until having access to our trainings. Onward House is proud to offer adult education programs that meet the growing needs of the community.
